About WWBCA

Waterloo Wellington Buddhist Cultural Association (WWBCA) is a registered charity in Canada established in 2010 to address the spiritual needs of Buddhists of Sri Lankan origin living in the Waterloo region and the Wellington county of Ontario. WWBCA's mission is to provide a place and forum for Buddhists and those interested in Buddhism to learn, understand, research, and practise Buddhism according to Sri Lankan Theravada traditions.

The objects of WWBCA are:

  1. To preach and advance the teachings of the Buddhist faith and the religious tenets, doctrines, observances and culture associated with that faith.
  2. To establish, maintain and support a house of worship with services conducted in accordance with the tenets and doctrines of the Buddhist faith.
  3. To support and maintain missions and missionaries in order to propagate the Buddhist faith.
  4. To establish and maintain a religious school of instruction for children, youths and adults.

The present and planned WWBCA projects include meditation programs and dharma sermons both in English and Sinhala, Pirith chantings, Sil programs, a dharma and a language school, celebration of Wesak and Poson festivals and to make Buddhist literature and discourses freely available in different media to those interested. Foremost among these projects is the need to have a Buddhist Temple which can also serve as a centre for all Sri Lankans living in the region.

The Association is non-sectarian and non-denominational and welcome all Buddhists to make use of the programs and participate in the activities. Membership of Waterloo Wellington Buddhist Cultural Association (WWBCA) is available to anyone who is interested in Buddhism.

The by-laws describe the requirements for membership and the administrative structure of the Association. There is no fee for membership. The completed membership application may be mailed to the head office of the Association at 64 Uxbridge Crescent, Kitchener, ON N2E 2P8.
